The American Society of Papyrologists (ASP) was founded in 1961 to further the study of ancient Greek and Latin papyri and of the materials contained in them. The Society supports and encourages research in the field, the teaching of the discipline, and opportunities for international cooperation by scholars in the field. Members of the ASP are encouraged to join the Association Internationale de Papyrologues (AIP), which sponsors the triennial International Congress of Papyrology and subsidizes such scholarly enterprises as the Wörterbuch der Griechischen Papyrusurkunden and the photographic archives of papyri maintained in Brussels. All ASP members receive the Bulletin of the American Society of Papyrologists.
